FAQ
Do Indian tourists need a visa for Bhutan?
No. Indian tourists do not need a visa to visit Bhutan. Indian citizens are issued an Entry Permit instead. Valid documents: Indian passport (minimum 6 months validity) or Voter ID. Children under 18 travelling without a passport must carry an original birth certificate (in English) and be accompanied by a legal guardian.
Is the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) applicable for Indians?
Yes. SDF applies to Indian nationals at a reduced rate: INR 1,200 per person per night for adults (12+), INR 600 per child per night (ages 6–11), and free for children aged 5 and below.
What kind of clothes should I carry for Bhutan?
Pack modest clothing for dzongs, temples, and monasteries — shoulders and knees must be covered. Bring full-length pants, long skirts, and long-sleeved or collared shirts. Avoid shorts, short skirts, sleeveless tops, and tank tops at sacred sites.
How many days are enough for a Bhutan trip?
5–6 days covers essential highlights. 7–9 days is the recommended, best-paced trip. Allow 10–14 days for a deeper cultural trail or trekking.
What currency is used in Bhutan? Can Indian Rupees be used?
Indian Rupees are widely accepted in Bhutan at a fixed 1:1 rate with the Ngultrum. Carry ₹100 and ₹200 notes; ₹500 notes may be refused or hard to change in smaller towns.
Can we buy alcohol in Bhutan?
Yes. Alcohol is sold in hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, and bars. Tuesday is a nationwide dry day. Alcohol is banned at monasteries and sacred sites. Shops cannot sell alcohol before 1:00 PM; most bars close by 10:00 PM.
